	Bhumibol Dam Invitation International Mountain Bike Championship 2008 Period: 30-31 August 2008 Bhumibol Dam, Tak Province, Thailand Link: Thailand Grand Festival Bhumibol Dam in Tak province will be hosting the Bhumibol Dam Invitation International Mountain Bike Championships for the fourth consecutive year on August 30 - 31, 2008. Noted for its scenic landscape, Bhumibol Dam provides an ideal setting for the mountain bike races. The event is being jointly organized by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in cooperation with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and Bhumibol Dam to promote ecotourism in tandem with outdoor sports at both a national and international level. 	Phuket Vegetarian Festival Period: October 2008 Phuket Thailand Link: Thailand Grand Festival The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. It is believed that the vegetarian festival and its accompanying sacred rituals bestow good fortune upon those who religiously observe this rite. During this time, local residents of Chinese ancestry strictly observe a 10-day vegetarian or vegan diet for the purposes of spiritual cleansing and merit-making. Sacred rituals are performed at various Chinese shrines and temples and aesthetic displays such as walking barefooted over hot coals and ascending ladders with bladed rungs are performed by entranced devotees known as "Ma Song".
